In 2008, the Lackawanna Astronomy Society celebrates it's 50th year. SPECIAL EVENTS ARTS ARE ALIVE
Saturday, Jun 7, 2008 5:00 PM
This season Lacawac is hosting a series of three art events (also on Aug. 9 and Oct. 4) to be held at the Carriage House. Come, meet the artist. Learn about the training behind the execution of the work. Gain insight into the creative powers of the artist. An opportunity for discussion and questions will follow each event. Then, join us for a catered buffet supper at the historic Lodge. Experience these three unusual and unique events! Renown Installation Artist Michael Hardesty will introduce his work. Monumental in scale, involving lasers, smoke, sound, video projections and large geometric forms, Hardesty is not happy with a piece “unless it raises the hairs on your arms.” Installation Art, a relatively new art form is, by its nature, an interactive art. The viewer’s presence in the room alters the work. A leader in establishing this art form in the 1980’s, Hardesty’s work is on permanent exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Residing in Wayne County and a member of the Wayne County Arts Alliance, Hardesty promises a fascinating, visually-aided talk, guaranteed to provoke questions. Followed by a catered buffet supper at the Lodge. Reservations are required. “Performance” only $25, “Performance” and Supper $45, Series of three (Performance and Supper) $100.
