Full Moon HikeAs our eyes adjust to the fading light, we’ll listen for the nocturnal awakening. We will hike to the shores of Lake Wallenpaupack to watch the full moon rise. This is a strenuous 3-mile hike. Meet at the Visitors Center. Donations suggested. Registration is required. Event is free.

Spring Clean Up DaySpring clean-up and site project help is needed. Trails need to be cleared, leaves need to be raked away from the buildings, painting projects, plus much more. All ages welcome. Snacks and drinks will be provided!

Spring Wild Edibles
Join renowned herbalist Nathaniel Whitmore, for a walk around Lacawac looking for perennial vegetables, medicinal herbs, mushrooms, and many of the edibles in the forest. The forest has sustained our ancestors for generations. Learn how you can add some unusual options to your garden repertoire. Meet at the Environmental Education Center. Mother's Day Afternoon TeaTreat your Mother to a delicious afternoon tea, set within our 20th century stately summer home. Make Mother's Day special and join us for a delicious afternoon tea, set within the impressive interior of the the historic Watres Lodge. Our menu follows the traditional Afternoon Tea combination of sweet and savory delights. The ingredients include an assortment of Tea Sandwiches, Scones, deviled eggs, delectable house made pastries, and fresh fruit. A short presentation on the history of the 1903 lodge will be given with the opportunity to explore the interior rooms.

Kids Nature YogaJoin us for Kids Nature Yoga where children ages 4-8 will learn yoga through stories and poses inspired by animals and the natural world around them. June Programs
The World of the Timber Rattlesnake
Discover the history, ecology, and conservation of America’s Rattlesnake – the Timber Rattlesnake. We will discuss reasons why this animal is so special and should be conserved throughout its range. We will also explore the Northern Copperhead (the only other venomous snake in our backyard) in addition to the Eastern Milk snake and Common Water snake (two species of snake that are commonly mistaken for venomous animals). There will be safe opportunities to see live representatives of each of the four snake species. This talk will also have plenty of interactive moments for kids (and adults) of all ages. Event is Free and begins promptly at 10:00 a.m. Meet at the Carriage House. Registration is required.

Lunch & Learn June SeminarLake Sediments and Climate Change: Examples from Northeast Pennsylvania
Dr. Matthew Finkenbinder, Associate Professor of Geology at Wilkes University Matt is a geologist with research interests in sedimentary geology and long-term climate change. He uses the sediment record from lakes and a variety of physical and geochemical techniques to develop paleo records of glaciation, drought, and environmental changes. Evening Paddle on Lake LacawacExperience the wonders of Lake Lacawac as the evening unfolds. During this relaxing paddle there will be a short introduction about the ecological features and the research being conducted on the lake. Learn why this is considered the most pristine glacial lake in North America. All equipment and boating instructions will be given prior to launch. Personal boats are not permitted. Meet at the dock of Lake Lacawac. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. $10.00/ per person. Registration limited and required.

Lunch & Learn June SeminarTraditional Music of Appalachia
Dr. David Husic, the John D. and Frances H. Larkin Professor of Chemistry at Lafayette College Dave became captivated by traditional Appalachian music as a teenager and has been playing the fiddle socially and semi-professionally for 50 years, focusing on styles associated with the Appalachian Mountain region of the U.S. from New England to Georgia. For over 10 years, Dave has taught an introductory seminar course entitled "Appalachia" at Lafayette College, which addresses a wide range of both historical and contemporary topics relevant to the region, including how its abundant resources and associated growth influenced social, cultural, and environmental changes. In this presentation, Dave will share, discuss and perform some of the instrumental music from parts of Appalachia (including PA) that was inspired by the history, heritage, and natural features of the region. Less than 48 hours notice - no refund

- A refund will be offered in the case that a program is cancelled or rescheduled by Lacawac Sanctuary (e.g. insufficient registration or inclement weather).
- In the case that an individual must cancel their registration. Refunds will vary based on when the request for cancellation is received:
More than 7 days notice - 100% refunded
More than 48 hours notice - 50% refunded
Less than 48 hours notice - no refund
- If your refund totals less than $20, then a credit for future program fees will be issued.
- If your total refund is greater than $20, then you can choose to receive a refund in the form of a credit or as a reimbursement.
- Any credit's issues must be used within one year of the original date of purchase.
