Eager Beaver Hiking Challenge

Take the challenge and hike from January 1 to January 31, 2026, explore the beauty of our diverse trail system. All trails at Lacawac Sanctuary and Browning Beaver Meadow Sanctuary properties, ranging from easy to difficult, are included in this exciting adventure. Track your journey by logging your miles in our “Hiking Challenge” logbook, conveniently located inside the visitors center next to our detailed maps. Not only does logging miles create a personal record, but it also offers you the chance to win fantastic prizes. For every 2 miles completed, earn an entry to win Lacawac Merchandise, two tickets to our popular Cocktails for Conservation event, outdoor field guides, and more.

Note: This is a non-guided hiking challenge​

Prize Drawing

Prize drawing for the 2026 Eager Beaver Hiking Challenge will take place on February 7th, 2026. Winners will be announced on our Facebook & Instagram @lacawac and contacted via email.

Challenge Rules

  • You must be registered to participate in Lacawac's 2026 Eager Beaver Hiking Challenge.
  • ​All miles logged must be hiked at Lacawac Sanctuary or Browning Beaver Meadow Sanctuary.
  • Respect the environment and follow Leave No Trace principles during your visits.
  • Stay on existing trails. Do not enter adjacent or private properties.
  • Dogs are welcome so long as they are leashed and waste is collected and disposed of properly.
  • Alcohol, smoking, and fires of any kind are not permitted at the sanctuary.
