Junior Counselor (Volunteer)

We are seeking junior counselors for our summer day camps!

Job Description

Summer Camp Junior Counselors assist with all activities and help to ensure a safe environment for children enrolled in the day camp program.  Lacawac’s junior counselors assist in providing leadership in program activities, are appropriate role models, and assist in all aspects of the program.  They are crucial in adding energy and enthusiasm to the program, while meeting the daily needs of children.  Junior counselors must attend a pre-camp orientation and be able to assist with at least 2 weeks of camp. This is an unpaid volunteer position. 

Specific Responsibilities

●       Provide opportunities for each child to experience a successful program.
●       Enthusiastically participate in all program activities with children.
●       Actively promote an environment that is safe and fun for all children in the program.
●       Assist with set-up and clean-up of each day's program.
●       Assist children and the Camp Counselors with arrival and departure procedures.
●       Role model a screen free camp.  (no cell phone use during camp)

Qualifications

​●       Volunteers must be between the ages of 14 and 17 years.
●       Strong interest and enthusiasm for the outdoors and sharing nature and the environment with children.
●       Must be able to commit to all days of a given camp.
●       Ability to present a professional appearance.
●       Punctuality and demonstrated responsibility.
●       Ability to hike several miles a day and carry equipment weighing up to 15 pounds.
●       Ability to work with children ages 5-12.
●       First Aid CPR certifications a plus.

Lacawac Sanctuary Field Station and Environmental Education Center is an independent, non-profit, environmental education organization located on the shore of Lake Wallenpaupack in the Northern Poconos.  We operate solely on program fees, memberships, sponsorships, grants and private donations from people like you.
