Art in Nature Programs

The Arts in Nature programs promote multi-disciplinary explorations of our relationship with the natural environment through artistic expression.  It is our hope that the Arts and Nature program provides experiences at Lacawac that revive the spirit and encourage creativity. It creates a focal point where art, nature and people can intersect and coincide, inspiring our deep connections with nature.

Artists' Residency Program

Lacawac's Artists' Residency program provides artists with a platform to allow these creative people to build their own synergetic relationships within Lacawac and nature. Artists working at Lacawac have opportunities to work in the community with scientists, other artists and visitors in their given medium and are encouraged to explore and investigate new methods and approaches.

Artists-in-Action (AiA)

Lacawac's Art in Action (AiA) program provides afterschool programs and community organizations in Lackawanna and Wayne Counties with weekly one-hour art lessons. Through AiA’s creative youth development curriculum, students develop the skills necessary to become Creative Artists, Courageous Allies, Critical Thinkers, and Confident Leaders. Our program engages students in hands-on activities that deepen connections to lessons learned in the classroom while expanding their social and emotional development. AiA consists of curriculum-based arts integration in any of the following Art disciplines: Visual Arts, Creative, Movement/Dance, Music, Theatre, Storytelling, Literary Arts, and Cultural Arts.

Local Artists - Local Use

Our goal is to build cooperative relationships with local organizations, artists and art teachers and students to use Lacawac's resources and facilities.  These may be project based, community based, school based, or directed by an individual artist or art collective.

Art Exhibitions

At Lacawac we encourage creative expression which helps people with the natural world.  We infuse creative arts into many of our programs and special events including rotating art exhibitions in the Carriage House.

We invite local artists to exhibit artwork with us.  How to submit: Email samples of your work with the show title in the heading that you wish to submit.  If you have a website, please include the link in your email.
For more information contact our Artistic Director at [email protected].
