Preservation at Lacawac
A primary purpose of Lacawac Sanctuary is to protect Lake Lacawac's watershed, providing an undeveloped area for scientific research, environmental education, and recreation. Lacawac protects over 550 acres of wetland and forest habitats throughout the watershed.
Lacawac has ongoing research efforts as part of our preservation goals. We are currently evaluating the impact of white tailed deer overabundance on the our forests and actively restoring acres of Golden Winged Warbler habitat.
Citizen Science efforts at Lacawac such as our Pocono Lakes Ecological Observation Network (PLEON) work to bring citizens into contact with scientists and collect data that will help us conserve and understand the habitats and ecosystems we are protecting. Citizen Science is a great way to get evolved, meet scientists, get up close with nature, and help collect data that makes a difference.
