A legacy gift to is a planned future donation to a charity, given through a will or other form of designation. It is a decision that each person makes in their own financial planning process, taking into account their charitable wishes and values.
We all value opportunities for our children to enjoy learning about the natural world. Your gift can ensure that Lacawac Sanctuary is serving our community for generations to come. A Legacy Gift to Lacawac Sanctuary continues beyond our time and benefits those who walk after us.
You will be recognized as a member of the Isabel and Arthur Watres Legacy Society. Society membership is about life, not death. If you’re still migrating through the seasons, enjoy the benefits and friendships that come from membership today. Lacawac is a social and family gathering place. Come for quiet walks, large social events, and education programs.
Defining our legacy is a personal choice and often difficult to do. Many now seek ways to make a direct charitable impact with specific bequests and endowments to local charities they know. To discuss your Legacy Gift, please call President, Craig Lukatch at 570-689-9494 or email [email protected]. We’ll discuss your charitable goals and align them with our own Foundation’s goals and objectives.

BequestsBequests are the most popular type of deferred gift. You can include a gift in your original will or revocable living trust or add one later by an amendment. The gift can be for a specific amount of money, specific piece of property, or a percentage of your estate. Once family, friends, and other loved ones are cared for, Lacawac can find a place as part of your life’s legacy. The following is sample bequest language to share with your attorney:
I, [name], of [city, state, ZIP], give, devise and bequeath to Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted use and purpose. Charitable Remainder Trust
A charitable trust is another way to make a gift and receive income for life. A Charitable Remainder Trust pays to the Donor (and/or another beneficiary) either a fixed or variable income for the beneficiary’s life, or for a fixed term not to exceed twenty (20) years, or a combination of the two. When the trust term expires, the remainder is then distributed to a charitable beneficiary.

Retirement Plan Assets
You can designate Lacawac as the beneficiary of your IRA or other retirement assets such as 401(k) and 403(b) plans and Lacawac will receive the funds upon your passing, or you can make outright gifts during your lifetime from these same assets that Lacawac can use immediately. You can leave just a portion to Lacawac or the entire balance. Retirement assets, such as a 401(k) and an IRA, can generate estate and income taxes, leaving little for your heirs. By designating Lacawac as a beneficiary you can potentially avoid these taxes while supporting research and education at the same time.
Charitable Gift Annuity
You make a gift to Lacawac and in exchange receive income for life for you and/or a loved one. Not only is a gift annuity easy to arrange, but your payments are fixed in amount and backed by the assets of Lacawac.

Life Insurance Gifts
You might have a paid-up life insurance policy that you no longer need. You can make a gift by transferring the policy outright to Lacawac or naming Lacawac as a beneficiary, similar to retirement assets. Or you might think about taking out a new policy benefiting Lacawac and receive tax benefits with each premium paid.
Charitable Lead Trust
A Charitable Lead Trust is the reverse of a charitable remainder trust. This type of trust can be created by a deed of a trust or a will. Donors can stipulate that an annuity or uni-trust payment be made to a fund for any duration of years, after which the principal is paid to the donors or to any other non-charitable beneficiary.
