Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance and Lacawac Sanctuary and Field Station are pleased to announce the 2017 Women in Science Symposium at The Heritage Nightclub at Woodloch on September 19, 2017. This unique forum showcases the professional and life experiences of distinguished female science and environmental leaders. Through stimulating conversations and active engagement with Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) professionals, this Women in Science Symposium encourages attendees to pursue careers, exchange ideas and make lasting connections.

“We are proud to have this opportunity to share that there ARE jobs here in Northeast Pennsylvania! Career awareness and exploration is most effective when it includes REAL people from your hometown that work in cool jobs! Talking to professionals and hearing WHY they chose a certain career path is so helpful to the decision making process. It’s all about having a willingness to learn”, said Lucyann Vierling, Executive Director, Wayne Pike Workforce Alliance.

“Attracting more women in STEM occupations will maximize innovation, creativity and competitiveness. With a more diverse workforce, the direction of scientific inquiry will be guided by a broader array of experiences”, said Craig Lukatch, President, Lacawac Sanctuary and Field Station.

The morning begins with Networking and meeting with Business and Education Sponsors and STEM Professionals at 8 AM, followed by the Welcome and Opening Remarks at 9:15 and a keynote address from Eileen Cipriani, Deputy Secretary for Workforce Development at Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. After a short break, Panelist presentations begin, concluding at 11 AM and followed by lunch and a second round of networking. Attendees will have the opportunity to take part in a one hour Question and Answer Session with Panelists, STEM Professionals and Higher Education Partners and have one final opportunity to obtain information and resources from the Business and Higher Education Sponsors and STEM Professionals tables.

This symposium is made possible with the support from all of our sponsors to date including Johnson College, Lackawanna College, Penn State Worthington Scranton, Sussex County Community College, College of Arts & Sciences - East Stroudsburg University, Keystone College, King’s College, Northampton Community College, PPL Electric Utilities, Pike County Conservation District, RKR Hess, A Division of UTRS, Inc., The Wright Center, UGI Utilities Inc., Wilkes University and I.B.E.W. L.U. #81 Scranton Electricians. The sponsors will display their programs and fields of study offering resources to attendees considering STEM related careers.
