Summer Camp Counselor Positions Available

SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR
Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for the care of children enrolled in Camp.  Lacawac’s counselors provide leadership in program activities, are an appropriate role model, and assist in all aspects of the program. They are crucial in adding energy and enthusiasm to the program, while meeting the daily needs of children.
Application deadline: March 15th.
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Provide opportunities for each child to experience a successful program
  • Enthusiastically participate in all program activities with children
  • Actively promote an environment that is safe and fun for all children in the program
  • Assist with pre-camp planning and activity preparation
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of each day's program
  • Assist children and the Camp Counselors with arrival and departure procedures
Qualifications:
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm for the outdoors and sharing the environment with children
  • Must be able to commit to all days in each camp
  • Ability to present a professional appearance
  • Ability to hike several miles a day and carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to work with children ages 5-18
  • Previous experience with summer camps is preferred
  • First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard certifications a plus
 Requirements and Details:
  • Attend a week of pre-camp orientation and training
  • Pass background check and child abuse clearances .
  • Start date: June 18; End date: August 10 with a follow-up day
  • A weekly stipend of $400 will be provided for day camp and training week.
  • One week of residential camp is included.  A $500 stipend is provided.
 
Education:
Minimum of a H.S. Diploma
Experience:
  • Experience working with children
  • Coursework in education, ecology or environmental science a plus

Counselor Application

SUMMER CAMP JUNIOR COUNSELOR

Summer Camp Junior Counselors are responsible for the care of children enrolled in the program.  Lacawac’s counselors provide leadership in program activities, are an appropriate role model, and assist in all aspects of the program.  They are crucial in adding energy and enthusiasm to the program, while meeting the daily needs of children. Applications must be received by May 1st to be considered. Volunteer counselors must attend a pre-camp orientation and complete mandatory child abuse clearances. This is an unpaid volunteer position.
 
Specific Responsibilities:
  • Provide opportunities for each child to experience a successful program
  • Enthusiastically participate in all program activities with children
  • Actively promote an environment that is safe and fun for all children in the program
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up of each day's program
  • Assist children and the Camp Counselors with arrival and departure procedures
Qualifications:
  • Volunteers must be between the ages of 14 and 17 years
  • Strong interest and enthusiasm for the outdoors and sharing nature and the environment with children
  • Must be able to commit to all days of a given camp
  • Ability to present a professional appearance
  • Punctuality and demonstrated responsibility
  • Ability to hike several miles a day and carry equipment weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to work with children ages 5-12
  • Previous experience with summer camps is preferred
  • First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard certifications a plus
